ALTU

About_
In 2021, Athlone Institute of Technology merged with Limerick Institute of Technology to become The Technological University of the Shannon. In 2020, as the merger was in progression, I was studying a Masters Degree from Falmouth University. I decided to take on the branding of the proposed new university as a conceptual project. I named the university ALTU.
Design_
The strategy for the project was to position ALTU as a challenger brand, challenging the notion that universities are for the well-off or the elite. ALTU is a new type of university, it is not rooted in tradition like the established universities in Ireland. It is disruptive, transformative, modern and progressive. Given this, the identity needed to be brave, bold, progressive, transformative and empowering.
TUS
About_
My job at TUS is to create engaging print and digital collateral that aligns with the brand guidelines.

Gods Led by Goats
In 1975 Athlone Town welcomed Italian giants AC Milan to their tiny ground for a UEFA cup tie. This was the biggest event to ever happen the town. There is great myth, legend and nostalgia surrounding the game, from phantom goats to, Greek Gods to a fabled penalty miss. From joy to trauma, the game is remembered as one of those special sporting occasions that has become part of the folklore of the area. For a project, I wrote article retelling the story of the game, using the moments and memories collated from research to explore how myth and legend shape a good story. I branded the project for a fictional play that told the story of the event.

A NEW BREED
Illegal dumping has been a problem in Ireland for sometime. I wanted to create a campaign that raised awareness surrounding the issue. I imagined a world where poisonous toxins from illegal dumping seeped into the ecosystem and started causing mutations in animals and wildlife.
This project aimed to provoke a strong reaction from the viewer, to create a ‘what if’ senario that might affect behaviours.

OLD MAN’S PUBS
This project was driven by the idea of design authorship. Like many designers, I have a desire to affect positive social, cultural, economic and political change through engagement with issues that align with my values.
The Irish pub, or ‘Old Man’s Pub’ as we call it here, has always been a hugely important aspect of Irish culture, society and community. The pub has always been a centre where communities got together and shared life’s experiences – good and bad. They regularly sold other items such as groceries or clothes, so many of them were multi-purpose. The publican was often seen as a leader in the community. It was about much more than drinking alcohol.
I created a conceptual idea of creating a book to create a visual snapshot record of an historically important aspect of Irish life that seems to be dying out fast.
